Background

India and Germany is celebrating the 60th anniversary of Indo-German diplomatic ties (http://www.germany-and-india.com/program) during 2012. This year will see a series of events focusing on many facets of life including the "education, research and science" under which a science pavilioon will travel to 7 cities in India. One of the cities selected is Pune where workshop cum seminar series on "Challenges and opportunities in Air Pollution and Climate Change" (CHOP-C) is planned to be organized at Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology, Pune, India during January 16-18, 2012.

The CHOP-C workshop is part of the Germany-India 2012 "Infinite Opportunities" programme (http://www.germany-and-india.com/program) and the first of two meetings where German and Indian scientists shall meet to exchange knowledge and ideas related to the topics of air pollution and climate change. The prime objective of the event is to motivate young scientists of India through delivering quality thematic lectures by eminent scientists from Germany and India in the area of air quality, monsoon and climate interactions.

Objective

The workshops have three main objectives which are reflected in the programme structure given below :

  • To highlight outstanding research on chemistry climate interactions in Germany and India.

  • To provide opportunities for brilliant young researchers in India to inform themselves about research and career opportunities in Germany and allow German scientists to meet promising young scientists from India.

  • To strengthen existing German-Indian collaborations and establish new opportunities for co-operation.

Selected candidates are requested to convey the acceptance immediately and not later than 28th December 2011 (6 PM) along with the arrival and departure dates and accommodation requirements, so as to make the necessary arrangements.

If no confirmation is received by 28th December 2011, your registration will automatically be cancelled (by the auto system) and the opportunity will be given to a wait listed candidate.

Call for Selection for Students ( Closed )

CHOP-C will provide the opportunity to 15-20 motivated students to attend the workshop. Selected candidates will be provided full financial assistance which will include train fare restricted up to 2nd AC along with free lodging and boarding from 1 day prior to the workshop to 1 day after the workshop.

Visa and Travel

For most of the foreign country participants Indian visa is required. The foreign participants are encouraged to contact the consulates in their respective countries regarding the documentation required for visa application. We will provide an invitation letter to the participants on request. In case of any problem, participants are requested to contact pollution@tropmet.res.in
