Summary : The overall Delhi AQI is in the higher end very poor category as forecasted further deterioration is predicted and may touch lower end of SEVERE category by 22nd November. The main factors working towards the deterioration of Delhi Air quality is the extremely low wind speed and strong near-surface inversion during the stable night time. Hence the ventilation is minimum and leading to the accumulation of pollutants near the surface. The condition is likely to improve by 23rd November afternoon to the very poor category since a strengthening of surface winds is forecasted owing to the passing of Western disturbance. Though fire counts are relatively high ~1011 (as per SAFAR multi-satellite product) as compared to last week the stubble level winds are easterly not favorable for plume intrusion and today stubble % share estimated as just 5% and tomorrow also no significant stubble impact is expecting to Delhi.      Extended range outlook: The AQI may touch the severe category but the condition is not likely to prolong since the passing a fresh WD is expected to increase wind speed and improve ventilation by 23rd November, Further improvement of AQI towards the lower end of very poor by 24th November.

FACTORS AFFECTING DELHI AIR QUALITY :

Today's most dominating factor to drive Air quality towards deterioration is marked in 'RED'. :

Favorable means Good; Unfavorable means bad & OK means normal for Air Quality.

(1)  RAINFALL :No–Unfavorable.

(2)  LOCALIZED DUST LIFTING: : Low–Favorable.

(3)  LONG DISTANCE DUST TRANSPORT: Low–Favorable.

(4)  SURFACE WIND SPEED: Low-Unfavorable.

(5)  SURFACE WIND DIRECTION :Easterly–Ok .

(6)  RELATIVE HUMIDITY: Moderate–Favorable .

(7)  MIXING LAYER HEIGHT:Moderate-Favorable .

(8)  LOCAL TEMPERATURE:Low– Ok.

(9)  BIOMASS-FIRE COUNTS:High–Ok.

(10)  STUBBLE TRANSPORT LEVEL WIND(at 900 mb) DIRECTION: Easterly–Favorable.
